Jimmy Johnson Wife Parents Murder
The parents and nephew of NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson’s wife were found dead in their home in Urbana, Illinois, on Monday night, March 6, 2023. The deaths are being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide.
The victims have been identified as Terry Janway, 73, Jack Janway, 75, and Dalton Janway, 11. Terry and Jack Janway were the parents of Johnson’s wife, Chandra Janway Johnson. Dalton Janway was their grandson.
Police were called to the Janway home at around 10:30 p.m. on Monday night after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots. When officers arrived, they found the three victims dead inside the home.
An investigation is ongoing, but police believe that Terry Janway killed her husband and grandson before taking her own life. A gun was found at the scene.
Johnson, who is a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, withdrew from the NASCAR Chicago Street Race on Tuesday in the wake of the deaths. He released a statement saying that he and his family were “devastated” by the news.
“We are heartbroken to hear about the tragic deaths of Terry, Jack and Dalton Janway,” Johnson said in the statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Chandra and the entire Janway family during this difficult time.”
The deaths of the Janways have shocked the Urbana community. They were well-known and respected members of the community. Terry Janway was a retired teacher and Jack Janway was a retired businessman. Dalton Janway was a student at Urbana High School.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Janway family with funeral expenses. The page has raised over $20,000 as of Wednesday morning.
