The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said that Mallett was one of a group of people who were swimming in the Gulf of Mexico near a sandbar when they started to struggle to make their way back to shore. Mallett was not breathing when he was pulled out of the water and lifeguards performed CPR. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
