Rosanna Scotto Interview
Published: 11/20/2014
Interviewer: So, you are celebrating 28 years at Fox 5.
Rosanna Scotto: I can’t believe that. It has gone by so quickly. When I came here, I was a single girl. I’ve gotten married, had kids, met interesting people in and out of the station, and I blink my eyes and it is 28 years later.
Interviewer: You’ve anchored the evening newscasts, now you are in the morning. How did you make the adjustment?
Rosanna Scotto: It was an adjustment, because at night, it is pretty scripted. The focus back then was very very hard news. I would look for stories to break on the 10 o’clock news. Besides anchoring, I would go out and do things. Then, when I went to mornings, you really have to know everything, from current events to who is trending on twitter. That was really an eye-opener. But it is fun, today we have everybody from Bill Nye the Science Guy to Frankie J. Grande, who is in Rock of Ages, and is Ariana Grande’s older brother. Tony Robbins mixed in as well. You kind of have to be very versatile to pivot from one interview to another, but it is a lot of fun.
Interviewer: People definitely have a different relationship with anchors in the morning than they do in the evening. It is a much more personal thing.
Rosanna Scotto: It definitely is. The reaction I used to get when I did the 10 o’clock news, walking down the street, people were, not stand-offish, but they would say hi and walk by. Now it is like, “can I take a picture with you? Can you sign this? Why did Greg day that to you?” They quote things from the show. It is kind of mind-boggling, quoting things from the show. It is a totally different audience, and it is wonderful to be in this position. I was reluctant to make the change from the 10 o’clock news to the morning, not because of the time change, or that I would need an alarm clock, but because the sow at that time was not doing well. I knew it was going to be a heavy lift, but Greg and I really melded, came together, came together, and we just make magic some days on this show.
Interviewer: You also have a food show.
Rosanna Scotto: I do, Friday night I am doing the second installment of “Wining and Dining with Rosanna.” My passion is eating. I am one of those people that when I am eating one meal, I am contemplating what I am going to eat for the next. As a foodie, and as someone who also owns a restaurant, I always want to know what is happening, what everyone is eating, what are the trendy places to go to, the secret places to go to. I think I have gotten all that in one half-hour special.
We did the trendy restaurants like Dirty French, which is a very tough restaurant to get into right now, it is very hot, and they have the best roast chicken ever. Then we did this other thing, which was kind of unusual, we did this “organ tour” in Flushing, Queens. So you go around and eat things like brain, spleen and other body parts.
Interviewer: How was that?
Rosanna Scotto:For someone my size, I am a very picky eater, believe it or not. I don’t eat a lot of things, so this was unusual. I did not taste everything, I will tell you that much, but my tour guide did. It was an education.
Interviewer:This is a city that loves its food, so it makes sense to tackle the NY food scene here.
Rosanna Scotto:There is so much to offer. On “Good Day New York,” we try to have interesting places on, but this is like, we go there and do it. Part of the fun is meeting interesting chefs, so I meet Bobby Flay, and we make the most delicious scrambled eggs. Scrambled eggs! It is our childhood, anybody can whip up scrambled eggs, but the way he whipped up scrambled eggs, he puts a secret ingredient in, it really is 2.0 scrambled eggs.
Interviewer: This is right before Thanksgiving too, everyone is thinking about food.
Rosanna Scotto: We are just priming our stomachs for the big eating day on Thanksgiving. Get the elastic pants ready.
