Wyatt Cenac is an American Emmy Award winning writer, comedian, actor, and producer. He hosts and produces the HBO series Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas. Cenac was also a correspondent and writer for The Daily Show from 2008 to 2012.

Family

Cenac was born to Wyatt Cenac Sr. a cab driver born in Saint Mark Parish, Grenada in 1944 and his mother who was a New York native. He was born at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan and later spending his early years in the Bronx.

When Cenac was five years old, his father was shot dead in his cab by a teenage passenger in Harlem. Cenac moved to Dallas, Texas in 1981 with his mother and Trinidadian stepfather.

He is the nephew of the Hon. Mr. Justice Dunbar Cenac, Registry of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and his father was the cousin of former deputy prime minister of Grenada Bernard Coard.

He lived in Fort Greene, Brooklyn as of October 2014, and he previously lived in Prospect Heights during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

The American documentary television series Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas, premiered on April 13, 2018, on HBO. athe series takes “a satirical look at social and cultural issues from Cenac’s unique perspective. HBO renewed the series for a second season and the announcement made on May 22, 2018.

Daily Show

Wyatt was hired as a correspondent and writer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in June 2008. He made several comedic appearances along with other correspondents and then filing his first field report on July 21, 2008; titled “Baruch Obama.”

The report discussed Jewish voters’ opinions of Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama. Cenac continued to integrate satirical Black-oriented material in his Daily Show segments, including “Rapper or Republican” until his final appearance on the show which was on December 13, 2012.

In appearance on WTF with Marc Maron in July 2015, Cenac revealed that his departure from The Daily Show stemmed in part from a heated argument he had with Jon Stewart. He further stated that it was over a June 2011 Daily Show bit about Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain.

He later appeared on Stewart’s final episode of Daily Show despite his revelation and the duo agreed that they’re “good.”

Brooklyn

Netflix released his second comedy special, Wyatt Cenac: Brooklyn in October 2014. The album was nominated at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Comedy Album.

His first hour-long comedy special, Comedy Person debuted on May 14, 2011, on Comedy Central.
