Returning to San Diego, he spent a significant seven-year period as a reporter at KNSD before eventually becoming part of the ABC7 team. In the year 2000, Gregory played a pivotal role in ABC7 Eyewitness News’ coverage of the Democratic National Convention. He also reported live from Washington, D.C. during the highly controversial election that ensued, as the Supreme Court deliberated on the legal matters arising from the election results.
Gregory’s commitment to journalism extended to joining the California National Guard troops on a mission to safeguard U.S. military installations in the Middle East following the September 11 terrorist attacks. His outstanding reporting earned him Emmy Awards in 1995 for his coverage of the Tank Rampage in San Diego and in 1996 for his reporting on the Harmony Grove Wildfires in San Diego.
