The Coronation of His Majesty The King(King Charles III) will finally take place this literal weekend. It’s three days of pageantry, ceremonies and generally good times (as is often the case when there’s a royal holiday). The celebrations begin on Saturday May 6th and last throughout the weekend. With a special day off to top it off. Not surprisingly, there is a lot of pomp and pomp lined up. Royal enthusiasts are treated to two epic processions. A church service and a star-studded concert at Windsor Castle, among other things.

When will King Charles III’s coronation be?

King Carlos III will be crowned on Saturday 6 May 2023 alongside his wife Camila, Queen Consort. It will be held at Westminster Abbey in London. Where 2,000 guests are expected, a stark contrast to the 8,000 guests who attended the Queen’s coronation in 1953.

Charles will be 74 years old in November 2022, making him the older person. to be crowned in British history. William, Prince of Wales is expected to play an important role on the committee organizing his father’s coronation.

How does the royal procession go?

It was announced that the procession of Charles will also be very different from the coronation day of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Elizabeth’s grand procession lasted two hours and had tens of thousands in attendance, covering a length of five miles.

Compared to their mother, the procession of King Charles and Queen Camilla will be only 1.3 miles long, a quarter of the length of Elizabeth. After the ceremony, they return to Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey via the established route of Parliament Square, along Whitehall, around Trafalgar Square, through Admiralty Arch and down the Mall.

This is the reverse route to the Abbey, but it will involve crossing Piccadilly, Oxford Street and Regent Street, the route Elizabeth took to greet the crowds on the way. It is understood that Charles’ shorter route was chosen for practical reasons, preferring the family journey used on many royal occasions.

Will return with the Gold State Coach, who has been criticized for being uncomfortable by many monarchs, including Elizabeth.

When is the bank holiday for the coronation?

It has been confirmed that there will be a bank holiday to mark the occasion. As the coronation itself falls on a Saturday, the bank holiday will take place on Monday 8 May 2023, two days after the service at Westminster Abbey.

Will the coronation be shown on TV?

The coronation will be televised live worldwide. BBC channels (BBC One, Two and iPlayer) will broadcast the ceremony live. Radio coverage is expected on Radio 2, Radio 4, 5 Live, Radio 3, World Service and BBC Sounds. Apparently, the BBC is even willing to waive its license fee for the weekend.

The channel has confirmed that Kirsty Young will moderate the coverage when Huw Edwards presents at the gates of Westminster Abbey, Sophie Raworth addresses guests, Clare Balding comments on the ceremonial walk and Anita Rani reports from the crowd outside. ITV1 and Sky News will also be providing full coverage of the ceremony and its processions. Viewers can also stream the event on ITVX or the Sky News YouTube channel.
